About Our Churches

The Fenn Lanes Benefice comprises the villages of Dadlington, Fenny Drayton, Higham-on-the-Hill, Stoke Golding and Witherley. We are in the western end of Leicestershire, near the Warwickshire, Staffordshire and Derbyshire borders. We are part of the Church of England Diocese of Leicester. There are regular services in each village, in most cases every Sunday, as well as weekday services too. One Sunday each month (usually the second Sunday of the month, and the fifth if there is one) we come together for a Benefice service – visiting each Church in turn.

Why is called the Fenn Lanes Benefice?

The Fenn Lanes run along the course of an old Roman road that ran from Ratae Corieltauvorum to Manduesedum, modern day Leicester to Mancetter on the A5 (Watling Street). All the churches are in close proximity to the road, along which travelled Richard III on his way to the Battle of Bosworth, the battlefield bestriding the Fenn Lanes at Fenn Lanes Farm.
